Abraham de Muynck was born on April 24, 1961 in Borssele. After secondary school (Christian Lyceum in Goes) he studied Education and Child Psychology at VU Amsterdam, with a focus on the special educational needs of children and youth. In his MA thesis (Fritz von Bodelschwingh 1877-1946 and his attitude to the handicapped children in the Nazi-Reich, Amsterdam, 1985) he showed his interest in philosophical and theological aspects of education and pedagogy. He extended his master program with a half year study of Anthropology in the Lutheran and Reformed traditions, (Utrecht University, prof. C. Graafland). From 1985 till 2003 he worked in the Schools Advisory Service, counselling teachers and parents, guiding school development programs, and lecturing in post-initial teacher training courses. In 1998 he qualified as a child psychologist and in 2006 as a clinical psychologist.
Since 2003 he has been a research leader (lector) and lecturer at Driestar Christian University, a reformed institution for initial and post initial teacher training (both for primary and secondary teachers at BA and professional MEd level). Since 1 September 2016, as a professor, he holds the chair of Christian Eduaction within the department of practical theology at the Theological University Apeldoorn. De Muynck is currently guiding a number of PhD students.
