Cornelis Christiaan (Niels) den Hertog was born on 23 September 1974 in Apeldoorn. From 1986 to 1992 he attended school for preparatory scientific education at the Christelijk Gymnasium Sorghvliet in The Hague. In 1992-1993 he studied Theology in Leiden. From 1993-1999 he studied at the Theological University in Apeldoorn. His main discipline was Dogmatics, minor subjects were Judaïca and Old Testament. His graduation thesis was about Dietrich Bonhoeffer's 1933 Christology College.
Since November 12, 1999 he has been congregational pastor. From 1999-2007 he served the Christian Reformed Church of Boskoop, and from 2007-2016 he served the Christian Reformed Church of Surhuisterveen. Since 2016 he has served the Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk of Nijmegen. In Surhuisterveen and Nijmegen there is full cooperation with the GKv.
Since September 1, 2019, in addition to his work as a pastor, he was attached to TUA for 0.3 FTE as a lecturer in systematic theology, as of April 1, 2023, he was appointed full-time at this university as a lecturer in systematic theology / public theology. As of March 1, 2024, he has been appointed associate professor of systematic theology / public theology.
On 8 September 1998 he married Maria Anne (Anneke) den Hertog-van Atten. Together they have a daughter and two sons.
